TotalEnergies has initiated construction of New York's largest onsite solar generating and storage system at JFK Airport, in partnership with PANYNJ and NYPA. The solar carport, located in the long-term parking lot, will generate 12 MW of power and include 7.5 MW of battery storage. Approximately half of the power will fuel the AirTrain rail link, while the remainder will benefit historically disadvantaged communities in Queens. Gov. Kathy Hochul and U.S. Rep. Gregory W. Meeks attended the groundbreaking ceremony, emphasizing the project's positive impact on the community and environment.
